Redevelopment Opava Military Base

kombinace

Former Czechoslovak Army was organized and managed according to Soviet model. Military camps were located in many of the Czech major cities. New defense strategy policy accepted after the entry of the Czech Republic into NATO made many of them redundant. Cities already applied for free of charge transfer of the camps from state ownership.

The first step – transfer- was usually successful. On the other hand, staying without any further development plans these areas represent serious spatial issue influencing urban development and quality of life. We introduced 3 potential concepts of development of army brownfield at 9.6 ha in Opava, Silesian metropolis (70,000). The selected one (Silesian University new campus for 600-900 students) is presented on the picture.
